Whether you’re searching for campers for sale, motorhomes for sale, or if you’ve already purchased your RV, we believe taking proper steps before heading out on your next adventure is vital to having peace of mind about your trip. Come along with us as we discuss our top steps to take before you hit the open road.
1. Check Your RVs Systems:
Is it time for an oil change? When was the last time you had the brakes looked at? All of the mechanical parts of the RV are so important to check before traveling. Take a look at your oil levels, the tires, brakes, windshield wipers, etc. Everything should be functioning properly. Your RV also has multiple systems; water, electrical and propane systems, these would be in good working condition to ensure an easy and safe trip.
2. Prepare For An Emergency:
Along with a first aid kit always loaded and packed in your RV, we also encourage a roadside emergency kit. This kit could include any tools necessary, a few flares, orange cones in case of a breakdown, and even a spare tire. If you don’t already have a roadside assistance membership, we highly recommend it. Most insurance companies offer this, while you’re looking into that, you should also review your insurance policy with your agent. Make sure you’re properly covered for the kind of trip you will be taking. Consider purchasing additional coverage if your agent deems it necessary.
3. Planning Your Route:
We know how easy it is to hop in your RV and see where the wind takes you, but we do think it’s a good idea to plan out your route from the day you leave to the time you come back, and everything in between. This includes rest stops, sight-seeing destinations, the main attraction, and the route you want to take on the way back. There are phone apps that can help you track this! Along with planning your route, it’s best to go ahead and book any campsite reservations in advance as well. Some of the popular campgrounds can book up quickly.
4. Safety Rules:
It’s usually the driver and/or the person who packs up the RV for the trip that knows where everything is, but we have always found it more helpful if all travelers are aware of where important items are during the journey. Do a walk around and a walk through the RV and see if anyone has any questions about its functionality and where things are located, especially the first-aid kit and fire extinguisher. We believe every passenger should be knowledgeable about emergency procedures.
5. Talk With Your Bank:
It may sound trivial but you don’t want to be cruising down the interstate in need of gas to find out that your card has been frozen. Talking with your bank and credit card companies before the trip, we think, is great advice. Let them know your travel plans and what areas you’ll be visiting so fraud alerts and unworking cards don’t put a damper on your adventure.
There are a ton of other simple tips you could add to our list as your master copy for every RV trip, and we’d love to hear from you. Our hope is that these steps to take before your next RV trip help you to become the seasoned RVer we know you’re bound to be and keep everyone safe, healthy, and happy out on the road!
